Some Thinking Aloud
Art: I see five dimensions in the art program:
basic skills (perception and execution)
public display (self-composure, communication)
self-exploration (self-awareness, being a creative audience)
communication (intent, awareness of the audience's subjective experience)
historical context (arts relating to other arts and historical epochs)
crossover with other arts (ways that arts effect each other and interact)

What about problem solving/ project design?
ReplyDeleteI think that needs to be on the list.
Jolina is wise. I dragged this from elsewhere:
ReplyDeletethe arts program which will be have a couple of levels of involvement, but will of course emphasize use of materials, the intimate relationship between audience and artist, history, and the contemplative dimension of drawing and painting.
Who is the art department?
What are it's goals in four years?
What part do each of the classes play in the overall goals?
What role should workshops play in the overall goals and how much can we afford to spend on them?
I that I can work out some of those questions in miniature with the music curriculum...but as larger questions, yes...who what how much.
ReplyDeleteProblem solving. Project design. Those are good ideas- perhaps a more architecture or landscape design unit with in an art class?
