discussing the development of the art and music program at TAS
Dear Students and Families,
Tinicum Art and Science has long been among the most unique high schools in America. Nowhere in secondary education does a school attempt to integrate the arts, mindfulness practice, spirituality, community awareness, and close, working relationships with teachers. Our students flourish here.
The arts are central to all this. Over the past several months we have restructured our arts program so it might provide a coherent and lively experience in the arts. The program’s many “moving parts” provide the variety that teenagers crave, while the emphasis on core skills ensure that the fundamentals are well supported.
Significantly, our arts program integrates various visual, tactile, musical, and other sensory modes with each other and with the practice of mindfulness. This is a very “grounding” program of study that benefits students of all abilities and inclinations.
Please get in touch with us if you have any questions or suggestions.
